Onion Girl
We are working with Stop & Shop and Giant Food on a program they recently launched called the “Real Deal,” which offers consumers special savings on summer essentials (think everything from sunscreen to hot dogs) through Labor Day.

As part of our plan to spread the word about the initiative we are working with Mary Nolan of the new Food Network show “Chic & Easy.” We are offering Mary to local morning shows to share her tips on how to throw “Summer Parties on a Shoestring Budget.” Last week I traveled to Baltimore and Washington D.C. to help execute two segments… and “Onion Girl” was born.
Living in Boston, I had to get all the products needed for the two segments once I was on the ground in Baltimore. Most things were easy. I just headed to a local Giant Food store to get all the grocery items and asked for an extra refrigerator for my hotel room. Surprisingly, this is not the first time my hotel room was converted into a kitchen for a client project!
The one thing that threw a wrench in the plan was, believe it or not, caramelized onions. Long story short - the FOX D.C. segment producer requested a cooking demonstration. Although it was not exactly what we had in mind, we knew we could make it work. Mary came up with the great idea of a burger bar and decided to make caramelized onions and flavored mayonnaises. Raw onions were no problem, but caramelized onions? Using a hairdryer was just not going to cut it. I looked at the room service menu. Nothing with caramelized onions. My next step was to ask the concierge (who looked at me like I had 10 heads), but he was able to help. Within seconds I was on the phone with Tony, the owner of a local restaurant who, after a little banter, was more than willing to help. He even sent his shuttle to pick me up. After a wonderful dinner I left full and with two containers… one with raw onions and one with caramelized onions!
Both segments went off without a hitch and Mary and the FOX producers in Baltimore and DC were a pleasure to work with. On my flight back to Boston, I was tired, but in total PR glory. It’s times like this that really remind me how much I love what I do.
Oh, and if you’re in Baltimore, stop by Luna Del Sea, ask for Tony and tell him that Onion Girl sent you.

The smallest details can make a difference - the segment turned out great Caroline, congratulations!
