Team Spirit

We had nearly 100% turn-out for last night’s J.P. Morgan Chase Corporate Challenge, which marked the event’s 25th anniversary in Boston and, most important, the third running of the event for 360.  Half the group ran and the other half (me included) walked the 5K loop between Boston Common and Back Bay.

360’s After-Party

Events like this are all about team spirit from my perspective, especially since none of us broke any records last night (unlike the race winner who ran the three-mile course in under 15 minutes).  We ran, we walked, we talked and laughed a LOT during the race and at the after-party at Clery’s.  It’s great when team-building comes naturally and doesn’t have to be “packaged” in a formal seminar or training session.  Sure, there are times when every organization needs to do that, but it’s nice when the team-building comes easy and you’re reminded how much you like the people you work with every day.

You can read the race results and highlights here.   My congrats to old pal and Agnew Carter alum Alan Tieuli for some terrific race coverage!

“Talk to Running Man” - Online Video at Social Media Breakfast

AOL Running Man

John and I attended the 8th Boston Social Media Breakfast (SMB8), which was held this morning at Ryles Jazz Club in Inman Square. Five speakers shared their views and case studies pertaining to online video, including Larry Lawfer from YourStorys, who spoke about his work with CVS Pharmacy and New York Life, and Rob Lane of Overlay.TV, who spoke about Smirnoff, among other case studies.

In addition, the first to present were Emily Belyea and Ben Grossman of Emerson College (my alma mater). They presented their “Talk to Running Man” campaign, which was a great example of how a company might utilize online video to build a community and garner attention for a brand online. The campaign actually placed 1st at the American Advertising Federation’s New England District advertising competition and 5th at the National level!

Painting The Town Green!

celtics-post.jpg

Before last night, 22 years had passed since the Boston Celtics last won the NBA Championship. In a town that thrives on sports as much as it does water, that is enough to make any Bostonian anxious, wondering when the title would return to this once-famed franchise.

Today, the anxiety is gone; there is only anticipation of next season.

I was lucky enough to be at Game 6 last evening as the C’s put a hurting on the Los Angeles Lakers to close out the NBA Finals, 131-92. The dominating performance marked a thrilling end to a remarkable season, and it got me to thinking about what this year meant beyond ultimate fan and player satisfaction.

What’s Hot (What’s Not) Online?

Walter Carl

360 hosted a professional development session of digital media leaders last week for our Converge agency network. The two-day summit kicked off with three phenomenal speakers on what’s hot (and what’s not) online. Here are a few key nuggets from each speaker:

Agencies “Converge” in Boston

It was 360’s turn to host the bi-monthly meeting of our Converge agency network this month.  The regular meeting of the Converge member firm partners coincided with a Converge Digital professional development session, which we also hosted.  The meetings brought partners and digital staff from the Converge member firms from across the US to Boston, including:  Carmichael Lynch Spong, Duffey Communications, M Booth, rbb Public Relations, The Rogers Group and Vollmer Public Relations.

Our new DC member firm, Harbour Group, was also represented by partner Richard Mintz, who served as press secretary for Sen. Clinton when she was in the White House during her husband’s presidency.  Harbour Group is a great addition to Converge, giving us a strong, plugged-in public affairs presence in Washington for clients who need it. Location is Everything: Digital Downtown

digital-downtown-post.JPG

Yesterday marked the opening day of the first ever Digital Downtown event at the World Financial Center in New York City. I was in attendance on behalf of our client, Jabra - a primary sponsor - and was lucky enough to spend the day mingling with members of the press and fellow consumer electronics industry representatives (it truly was a pleasure to meet and speak with you!)

The Financial District location was central to Digital Downtown. The overall concept was to design an event that would “serve the one-on-one information needs of high-income consumers who need a convenient way to learn about the latest new products without leaving the Financial District.”

Kate Hudson’s Boston

Boston has become a mecca for film makers in the past few years.   Kate Hudson has been back in town filming her latest movie “Bride Wars.”  While in town, Kate, son Ryder and friends stopped in at some of my favorite neighborhood spots.  While they were already Boston’s best in my book, a celeb visit makes these spots seem all the more hot.

If you’re in town and wondering ”what would Kate do?,” here’s a short list of stops, all on Charles Street in Beacon Hill: [Read more →]

Awards Recognize PR’s Best

The New England Publicity Club held their annual Bell Ringers Awards event Monday. There were a record 321 entries this year, and 360 took home 7 awards on behalf of clients.

National Print Placement Winners

Courtney, Carrie, Elicia and Jackie did their best red carpet strut up to the stage and Master of Ceremonies Billy Costa of KISS 108 and New England Cable News’ “TV Diner” (who bantered about being a Crock-Pot fan when our campaign was recognized!). One of the best things that comes from an event like this is the opportunity to spotlight the account teams, who are in the trenches on a daily basis pulling out results for their clients. Trust me, PR is not as glamorous as it’s made out to be (unless you’re in L.A.).
