PRSSA Goes 2.0

Last weekend, I spoke to a great group of students about blogs and blogger relations at the PRSSA 2.0 conference. It was held at the Boston University Photonics Center – a beautiful building – and was organized by members of various local college chapters of PRSSA including a couple of our own super-star interns here at 360! I was in great company – some of the other speakers were Rick Murray, David Meerman Scott, Dusty Rhodes, Greg Peverill-Conti, and Jason Glashow, among others.

I’ve attended more digital media and Web 2.0 webinars, events, and conferences than I can remember – most with audiences filled with both digital beginners and pros. With such a mish-mash of people, it can be hard to find common ground. I thought of this when pulling together my presentation – wanted to keep it at the “101″ level as I assumed most students would have a basic knowledge of the blogosphere. In the end, I was very impressed with how much these students knew already – some of them even having their own blogs and web sites. For example, two BU sophomores have launched InternshipRatings.com and are in the process of getting their blog up on the site too.

One of the things I tried to emphasize was that, as a student, you really do have a leg up – coming of age in the digital age with Facebook, YouTube, blogs and all of the other new communications tools. Usually as a college graduate you enter an industry where the vets have years’ of experience on you. When this year’s graduates enter the PR workforce, chances are, they’ll be way ahead of the digital game. Best of luck!

We found your lecture to be informative and helpful! We have taken some of your advice into consideration with our company blog. We think it is extremely important to become involved in the social media world know, because of its value to business-consumer relationships. Thank you for linking our site to the post. We hope to see you at more conferences in the future!

    Best,
    Lauren and Stephanie
